Large-Scale Fabric LED Panel Systems at Landmark Automobile

Project Location: Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia, Sri Lanka

Lighting Consultant & Manufacturer: Eco Solve Lighting

Core Innovation: Custom-Engineered 15ft x 12ft Silicone Edge Fabric (SEG) Backlit Diffusion Panels

Executive Summary

In premium automotive retail environments, spatial aesthetics directly impact brand positioning and consumer purchasing behavior. When lighting luxury vehicles, traditional point-source illumination creates heavy specular reflections and distracting hotspots on glossy clear-coats.

This case study analyzes the engineering, structural mechanics, and optical dynamics behind the installation of 08 massive customized Fabric LED Light Panels (15ft x 12ft) at the Landmark Automobile showroom. Manufactured and deployed by Eco Solve, this project establishes a new benchmark for large-scale commercial lighting architecture in Sri Lanka.

1. The Engineering Challenge: Specular Reflection in Automotive Retail

Automotive showrooms present a complex optical challenge. Modern vehicles feature highly reflective surfaces, including multi-coat metallic paints, glass, chrome, and polished carbon fiber.

When conventional high-output LED spotlights or downlights are directed at these surfaces, they introduce several architectural flaws:

• High-Intensity Hotspots: Piercing points of light reflecting off the car body, distorting its natural contours.

• Visual Fatigue: Glare zones that diminish the premium feel of the space and cause discomfort during long customer walkthroughs.

• Color Distortion: Inconsistent Color Rendering Index (CRI) profiles that wash out deep metallic flake finishes.

To solve this, the space required a transformation from high-intensity point-source lighting to a highly diffused, monolithic planar light source—essentially converting the showroom ceiling into a studio-grade architectural softbox matrix.

2. Technical Specifications & Structural Frame Mechanics

Executing an open-span fabric light panel at a scale of 15ft x 12ft requires strict structural integrity to prevent frame deflection, fabric sagging, or uneven light distribution. Eco Solve engineered a custom component ecosystem to guarantee long-term structural stability.

Structural Frame Profile

The framework utilizes a precision-extruded, high-tensile structural aluminum profile optimized for single-sided tension distributions.

3. The Optical Engine: Backlit LED Matrix Architecture

Achieving absolute uniformity across a massive surface using a shallow profile depth (29mm) requires an advanced light-distribution strategy. Standard LED strips create alternating bright and dark zebra-striping when placed close to a diffuser fabric.

High-Efficacy LED Grid Alignment

Eco Solve deployed a custom-calculated, rigid LED matrix backing board system inside the frame. Instead of bare diode layouts, the system integrates:

• Secondary Wide-Angle Optical Lenses: Each individual LED diode is capped with a specialized compound optical lens. These lenses distribute light laterally at a wide angle rather than a narrow conical beam.

• Optimized Pitch-to-Depth Ratio: The distance between each LED node is balanced against the profile depth, ensuring the overlapping light cones intersect perfectly before hitting the rear face of the fabric.

• Thermal Management Performance: The aluminum backboard acts as a direct heat sink, maintaining low junction temperatures for the LEDs, protecting the fabric from heat stress, and ensuring system longevity.

4. Architectural and Visual Impact

The installation of the 08 massive fabric panels completely revolutionized the operational environment of the Landmark Automobile showroom

• Elimination of Visual Noise: Cars on display reflect clean, continuous bars of soft ambient light along their body lines, mimicking professional automotive photography studios.

• Enhanced Spatial Depth: The “heavenly” glow makes the showroom feel physically taller and more expansive, drawing foot traffic smoothly from the Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia commercial high-street.

• Seamless Integration: Complementary architectural linear tracks and accent spotlights were integrated around the perimeter to add focus and depth to customer engagement areas.

5. The Manufacturing Advantage: Why Eco Solve?

As Sri Lanka’s only dedicated company handling full-scale LED manufacturing alongside total on-site support, Eco Solve provided an end-to-end operational framework for Landmark Automobile that importers cannot match:

• Bespoke In-House Fabrication: The 15ft x 12ft panels were manufactured to the exact millimeter specifications required by the architectural layout.

• Zero-Downtime Structural Security: Backed by a comprehensive 3-year warranty and a localized field engineering team, any maintenance is resolved with instant on-site one-to-one replacements.

• Supply Chain Continuity: Complete freedom from import delays or foreign parts issues, protecting the client’s long-term commercial investment.

Conclusion

The Landmark Automobile case study proves that modern retail design requires moving away from generic illumination toward tailored optical systems. By engineering high-tensile 28 mm SEG aluminum frames paired with wide-angle lens matrix backlighting, Eco Solve successfully delivered a striking, high-performance visual experience that reflects true lasting brilliance.
